El Obeid

El Obeid is the capital of North Kordofan State and a major commercial hub in central-western Sudan, located about 580 km southwest of Khartoum. Historically the world's largest gum arabic market — Sudan produces roughly 70% of the global supply — the city remains a vital center for agricultural and livestock trade, dealing in sesame, groundnuts, millet, and cattle. As a road junction connecting Khartoum to Darfur and South Kordofan, El Obeid serves as the logistics gateway to western Sudan.
