Wad Madani

Wad Madani is the capital of Gezira State and one of Sudan's most important cities, situated on the western bank of the Blue Nile approximately 180 km southeast of Khartoum. The city is the administrative heart of the legendary Gezira Scheme — one of the world's largest irrigation projects, spanning over 8,800 km² — which has made the surrounding region Sudan's agricultural backbone.
